1. Q: Why Vine Type?

   A: Vine Type provides easy web site maintenance to Microsoft web servers without the overhead and hassle of database administration or scripting language hassles. Vine Type provides built-in features to handle small (less than 500 pages) websites and an easy website maintenance interface that you can teach your clients to use in twenty minutes.

2. Q: Does Vine Type run under .NET 2.0?

   A: Yes. The Vine Type executable (the file named vinetype.dll requires the .NET 2.0 framework.

   Version 1 of Vine Type supported both .NET 1.1 and .NET 2.0 Frameworks. Contact Vine Type directly if you need to run a previous .NET Framework version.

3. Q: What is the difference between Vine Type Personal and Vine Type Pro licenses?

   A: The official answer is in the license.txt file, that you download with Vine Type, but I'll provide a simple overview: If both you and the website are not making a profit from Vine Type then Vine Type is free of charge.

   • If you create a not-for-profit Vine Type content managed site for a friend at no charge -- that's not for-profit.
   • If you create a Vine Type content managed site for a not-for-profit organization, that's not for-profit and no Pro license is required.
   • If you are a paid staff member of a not-for-profit entity, then no fee is required for that non-profit's site.
   • If you charge someone to create a Vine Type content managed website, then a Pro license is required.
   • If you create a Vine Type content managed website for a for-profit entity, a Vine Type Pro license is required.

4. Q: Am I allowed to place Google Adwords Ads on a Vine Type Personal website?

   A: Yes, Google Ads are specifically permitted by the terms of agreement for personal use sites.

5. Q: Where is the WYSIWYG editor?

   A: After installing Vine Type, folks usually see that big blank box used for input, and assume that they will have to learn HTML in order to get styled text. That's not the case.

   Vine Type has a rich editor. It just isn't WYSIWYG. Vine Type incorporates styling markup with simple-to-learn email-style notation, called Markdown. Markdown provides headings, italic, bold, and several other styling features. Learn more about styling text in the Vine Type How To section.

6. Q: Will Vine Type's support for PNG transparency in IE 6 and below interfere with IE 7 and other browsers?

   A: No, not in the slightest. The support functions that allow PNG transparency activation specifically target only the browsers that need it.
